The SRI LANKA MEDICAL COUNCIL is a statutory body established for the purpose of protecting health care seekers by ensuring the maintenance of academic and professional standards, discipline and ethical practice by health professionals who are registered with it.
As presently constituted the Council has representation from medical faculties of the state universities as well as from professionals in the state and private sector.
It is a body corporate having perpetual succession and a common seal.

ERPM PART B - 9 -13 JANUARY 2012- CALLING FOR APPLICATIONS

ERPM PART A - DECEMBER 5-8, 2011- COLLECTION OF ADMISSION CARDS

In view of the postal delays which may occur, candidates are requested to call over at the office of the Sri Lanka Medical Council to collect their Admission Cards between 10.00 a.m and 3.00 p.m. from Tuesday, 29 November to Friday, 2 December 2011. Candidates unable to collect the Admission Cards in person, may authorise another person to collect the Admission Card by submitting a letter indicating that person's National Identity Card number.

APPOINTMENT OF INTERN MEDICAL OFFICERS - FOREIGN MEDICAL GRADUATES WHO COMPLETED THE ERPM IN SEPTEMBER 2011

Foreign Medical Graduates who completed the ERPM in September 2011 are eligible to apply for internship along with the local graduates. A notice titled 'Appointment of Intern Medical Officers (Main Batch 2004 - 2005 Intake) dated 19-10-2011 issued by the Ministry of Health is shown as an attachment under 'Useful Information'under the heading 'Appointment of Intern Medical Officers'. Please collect your Certificate of Provisional Registration from the SLMC Office.

THE RESULTS OF THE ERPM PART B HELD IN SEPTEMBER 2011 ARE RELEASED

The results of the ERPM Part B held in September 2011 are published. 'New Format' candidates can check their results by clicking the 'Exam Results' link. 'Old Format' candidates can also check their results by clicking the 'Exam Results' link. In the case of Old Format candidates, the results of the Clinical subjects are entered under the 'Clinicals' column in the following order: Medicine/Obs. & Gynae./Paediatrics/Surgery. The symbols used denote the following: p=previosly passed; a=absent; n=not applied, e.g., n/p/50/p denotes: not applied for Medicine; previously passed Obs. & Gynae.; 50% for Paediatrics and previously passed Surgery. NB: The pass mark for each component is 50. The results of the following 'New Format' candidates are withheld: Index No. 1101, 1184, 1326 The 'Pass List' of candidates who have completed ERPM Part B can be accessed by clicking the 'ERPM' link.

In response to numerous requests, the Faculty of Medicine, Colombo has agreed to re-correct the papers of the August 2011 ERPM Part A. For details please refer the ERPM link.

SUSPENSION OF PREVIOUSLY RECOGNISED MEDICAL SCHOOLS

The SLMC reviewed the existing list of recognised medical schools/universities and after contacting all the medical schools on its list decided to exclude those medical schools which failed to respond to its communication from the list of recognised medical schools/universities w.e.f. 29 August 2011 . These schools will be included in a suspended list which will be available for reference at the SLMC Office.

ERPM PART A - AUGUST 1-4, 2011- ADMISSION CARDS

In compliance with a court order the INDEX NUMBERS of all candidates had to be changed. This has caused a delay in posting the Admission Cards to candidates. Please refer the 'ERPM' link regarding action to be taken by the candidates who do not receive their Admission Cards in time.

NEXT ERPM PART B - CALLING FOR APPLICATIONS

Applications are called for the next Part B of the Examination for Registration to Practise Medicine (ERPM) in Sri Lanka. Eligibility: 1. Candidates who have completed Part A of the New Format of the ERPM. 2. Candidates who passed the MCQ papers of the Old Format of the ERPM but have not completed the Clinical/Viva voce exam in the respective subjects. Application Forms are available at the Council Office during working hours and can also be downloaded from our website. The closing date and time for receipt of applications will be 29 July 2011 at 1.00 p.m. The dates on which the next examination are to be held will be notified later.

NOTICE: Examination for Registration to Practise Medicine (ERPM) - PART A: 1st to 4th August 2011

In accordance with the Order of the Supreme Court in the SC/FR Application No.124/2009, the letter of the Chairman, UGC dated 2 July 2009 regarding its implementation and the order on the motion filed on the case SC/FR 83/2011 on 31 March 2011, the Sri Lanka Medical Council will receive applications for the above examination from Monday 13 June 2011 during office hours. The application forms can be obtained from the Council office or downloaded from 'Applications and Downloads' from this website. Delay in releasing the results of the ERPM Part A - April 2011

Candidates are informed that the release of the results of the ERPM Part A - April 2011 has been delayed as the Faculty of Medicine, Colombo, has not sent the marks to the SLMC for compilation of the results. 24 May 2011

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO CANDIDATES SITTING THE ERPM PART A - 4-7 APRIL 2011

The ERPM Part A will now be conducted under the supervision of the SLMC. Please see under "Useful Information" for further information.You may collect your Admission Cards from the SLMC Office on the 2 and 3 April 2011.

RENEWAL OF REGISTRATION PRESCRIBED UNDER SECTION 26 A(1) OF THE MEDICAL ORDINANCE - 2010

Medical practitioners registered under Section 29, persons entitled to practise medicine and surgery under Section 41 and dentists registered under Section 43 of the Medical Ordinance are due to renew their registration on the 1 January 2010. Registration should be renewed not later than the 30 June 2010. The application form appearing under "Useful Information" may be used for this purpose.

RECOGNITION OF INTERNSHIP FOR REGISTRATION

The Sri Lanka Medical Council has until now recognised internship done outside Sri Lanka for the purpose of registration as medical practitioners. The Council has decided to discontinue this practice with effect from 01 May 2010. Thereafter, internship done only in approved hospitals in Sri Lanka will be recognised for registration. Thus internship done in institutions outside Sri Lanka from 1 May 2009 will not be considered for registration when the decision becomes effective on 1 May 2010.
